Importer Exporter Code (IEC)

IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE (IEC)

Every bonafide person or Company having business of import and export requires Importer-Exporter Code (IEC). IEC is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). IE code is 10 digit code and issues for the lifetime. No need to renew it but you can modify the same and also no need to file any return for the Code.
With effect from 1st April, 2016, IEC can be applied online only. No need to file/submit the documents physically. Online application for new IEC /modification in IEC can be made by applicants through digital signature (Class-II or Class-III).

Certain notified charitable trust, Ministries and person importing or exporting the goods for the person use not connected with trade, manufacture are exempted to take IE Code.

IEC can be applied in the following Category:
1.      Merchant Exporter,
2.      Merchant cum service provider,
3.      Manufacturer Exporter,
4.      Manufacturer cum service provider,
5.      Merchant cum manufacturer exporter,
6.      Merchant cum Manufacturer cum service provider,
7.      Service Provider,
8.      Others (please specify)

PROCEDURE
1.      Create an account on the above mentioned link of DGFT.
2.      Fill the form ANF 2A.
3.      Upload the required documents mentioned below on the basis of applicant/entity.
4.      Sign the form digitally with the DSC of applicant and submit the same.
5.      If all the formalities are correct, the IEC shall be issued within 7-15 days.
Note: Remember the PAN, Mobile number and the E-mail id. It will be required every time an applicant opens already created application; or the applicant desires to create new e-IEC application where e-IEC was rejected; or while modifying e-IEC.

2.       Copy of PAN card
3.       Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A (I) or cancelled Cheque bearing the applicant entities name.
4.       Such other document or details relevant for the application

IN CASE OF MODIFICATION OF e-IEC
1.      Proprietorship
        Digital Photograph (3x3cms) of the Proprietor.
        Copy of PAN card of the Proprietor.
        Copy of Passport (first & last page)/Voter’s I-Card/ Driving Licence/UID (Aadhar card) (any one of these).
        Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased; or latest electricity /telephone bill.
        Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A (I) / Cancelled Cheque bearing pre printed name of applicant and A/C No.
        Such other document or details relevant for the application

2.      Partnership firm
        Digital Photograph (3x3cms) of the Managing Partner.
        Copy of PAN card of the applicant entity.
        Copy of Passport (first & last page) /Voter’s I-Card /UID (Aadhar Card) /Driving Licence/PAN (any one of these) of the Managing Partner signing the application.
        Copy of Partnership Deed.
        Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased; or latest electricity /telephone bill.
        Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A (I) / Cancelled Cheque bearing pre printed name of the applicant entity and A/C No.
        Such other document or details relevant for the application

3.      LLP firm/ Government Undertaking/ Public Limited Company/ Private Limited Company/ Section 8 Company
        Digital Photograph (3x3cms) of the Designated Partner / Director of the Company signing the application.
        Copy of PAN card of the applicant entity.
        Copy of Passport (first & last page) / Voter’s I-Card /UID (Aadhar Card) /Driving Licence/ PAN (any one of these) of the Managing Partner/Director signing the application.
        Certificate of incorporation as issued by the ROC
        Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased; or latest electricity /telephone bill.
        Bank Certificate as per ANF 2 A(I)/Cancelled Cheque bearing pre printed name of the company and A/C No
        Such other document or details relevant for the application

4.      Registered Society/ Trust
        Digital Photograph (3x3cms) of the signatory applicant/Secretary or Chief Executive.
        Copy of PAN card of the applicant entity.
        Copy of Passport (first & last page)/Voter’s I-Card /UID (Aadhar Card) /Driving Licence/ PAN (any one of these) of the Secretary or Chief Executive/ Managing Trustee signing the application.
        Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased; or latest electricity /telephone bill.
        Registration Certificate of the Society / Copy of the Trust Deed
        Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A (I)/Cancelled Cheque bearing pre printed name of the Registered Society or Trust and A/C No.
        Such other document or details relevant for the application

5.      HUF
        Digital Photograph (3x3cms) of the Karta.
        Copy of PAN card of the Karta.
        Copy of Passport (first & last page)/Voter’s I-Card/ UID (Aadhar card)/ Driving Licence (any one of these) of the Karta.
        Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased or latest electricity /telephone bill.
        Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A (I)/ Cancelled Cheque bearing pre printed name of applicant and A/C No.

Note: In case of any change in the name/address or constitution of e-IEC holder as per para 9.1 of Handbook, the e-IEC holder shall cease to be eligible to import or export against the IEC number after expiry of 90 days from the date of such change unless in the meantime, the consequential changes are effected in the e-IEC by the concerned licensing authority.
